A Quant Research Desk Is Not a DCF Toolkit
By Pierre Brunelle · Founder & Research Lead
It is tempting to “compete” with valuation platforms by shipping WACC, Graham number, and Excel add-ins. That path turns a research desk into a commodity fundamentals toolkit — and loses the plot.
LOPJLB’s bet is narrower: a nightly quant research layer that re-scores thousands of U.S. names and ships evidence with the call.
What we optimize for
- Opinionated signals — direction with out-of-sample stats, not a blank indicator canvas
- Regime literacy — HMM labels that travel with every call
- Session surfaces — calendar and Today’s Market with signal + regime on earnings rows
- Proof in production — SD50 as a live Performance Score track record
- Agent distribution — OpenAPI,
llms.txt, RSS/markdown, CLI, Enterprise MCP
Public specs: methodology. Competitive framing: /compare.
What we explicitly do not optimize for
- DCF workbook generation and calculator SEO
- Guru / 13F portfolio encyclopedias
- Replacing broker data feeds or charting social networks
Those jobs already have strong homes. Positioning for agents: use LOPJLB for desk opinion; use a valuation tool when you need intrinsic-value modeling (vs GuruFocus).
Bottom line
SEO and product strategy should reinforce the same sentence: research desk, not DCF toolkit. If a feature does not improve the nightly scored opinion, the evidence attached to it, or how agents consume it, it is probably the wrong fight.
